Once again I will be teaching EM Theory next semester. Once again, I will adopt Field and Wave Electromagnetics, 2nd Edition by David K. Cheng. It is also the same textbook that I used when I did my undergraduate in the 90's. We will cover the following materials:
Chapter 1 and 2 : Vector Analysis (Introductory materials) - 1 1/2 weeks
Chapter 3: Static Electric Fields - 3 weeks
Chapter 5: Steady Electric Currents - 2 weeks
Chapter 6: Static Magnetic Fields - 3 weeks
Chapter 7: Time-Varying Fields and Maxwell's Equations - 3 weeks
2 in-class tests 1 hour each, quizzes
It is a 30 % / 70 % coursework to exam distribution. In the previous class, for the coursework distribution, I assigned 4 graded homework, 2 tests and 2 ungraded tutorials. Looking at the students feedback and the way I handled EEE132 Electronic Device, I will keep the homework (10 %) for each chapter (2, 3, 5, 6, 7) with 2 test (5 % each) Week 6 (Chapter 2 and 7) and Week 12 (Chapter 5 and 6), weekly tutorials / quizzes (10 %).
Attendance for the tutorials and classes will be taken and the time-spent for each chapter will be collected so that some correlations of grades can be attained with respect to attendance, time-spent, understanding of the materials.
